5 weeks till I leave! I’m really excited but sad. Moving feels sort of unreal. I am going to miss a lot about South Africa yet encounter new things along the way.

Countdown – 6 weeks
So much has happened in the last two weeks, it feels like it has been months since I last blogged. I am completely aware (especially since a few friends politely reminded me) that I missed my 7 week instalment. Oops. But by the end of this blog, you will understand why.
Countdown – 2 months to go
And that truck is carrying 15 of the most important cardboard boxes in all the world! At least that is what my dear children believe to be true! In my last post, I had hoped we would be able to fit into 15 boxes – and unbelievably, we did! 4 book boxes, and 11 standard…
Countdown – 3 months to go
3 months. Gulp. In 3 months time, we will have left South Africa permanently.
Countdown – 4 months from today
Finishing… One of the biggest things I remember learning from my 3 years in the Philippines was that I needed to finish well. So as our countdown continues, that is what we are focusing on. Finishing well. In all aspects of our South African lives.
Countdown – 5 months
Well, actually 4 1/2 months now, since I missed the 29th of October. I was up to my neck in studying creatinine height index, arterial blood gases and a whole slew of other incredibly exciting medical assessment techniques for the emergency nursing course I am taking.

On the Day I Almost Died
I turned 44 today. And I am not sure I have ever celebrated a birthday where I am so happy to be alive! I almost died on Tuesday. Literally. Dead. 2mm. 1 sec. That was the difference between me and the hereafter!

The last time I was at a funeral of a child, I was a child. I am not sure how old I was, but it is one of those moments that has stuck in my mind forever.
