We attend a great church here in Amanzimtoti, South Africa.  Oasis Church is a mix of black, white and Indian believers in Jesus.  We worship in many different languages and have both an English pastor and a Zulu one.  Carl and I have both been involved in many areas of church life over the past 6 1/2 years of attending Oasis.  I remember when we first arrived, we were going to church hop until we found a church we liked, but the first church we attended was Oasis…. and we never went anywhere else! 🙂  There were 3 reasons we stayed – the preach was very Biblical, two other moms talked to me, and the kids liked the children’s program.  And we were sold!

One of the newest areas of ministry that I volunteer with at Oasis is in what we call Sofa – a junior youth group for kids grades 4-7.  We have only been going for 6 months, but it has been a LOT of fun and a real joy to be a part of.  We picked the name Sofa, as we wanted the kids to feel it was a comfortable place for them to hang out – both with friends and with God.

This orange “sofa” is our mascot!  It has been punctured and fixed twice already!  The kids absolutely adore this sofa!!  It attended our year end function in the school pool – and was a bit worse for wear by the end of the day.  Afraid it is going to need another fix, but honestly, it was worth it!  Those kids had such a riot playing on that sofa in the pool!  But by the end, it was rather flat and deformed.

We have our first meeting of 2014 this Friday evening…  going to have to get my superglue out and attempt to fix our dear orange sofa!
